Hi all, my name is Kelsey Rose and I'm a senior on the CMS Women's Soccer Team. I play center defender and am lucky to have some of the most talented players as teammates. Our goalie - Camila Friedman-Gerlicz - is a stud. If she didn't have my back for those instances where I screw up, we wouldn't be in first place in SCIAC right now.

We finished the first round of SCIAC Conference with a 5-0-1 record.

Not to shabby to be undefeated after the first round, yet this means that every team will be coming after us in the next games. We are walking around with huge targets on our backs. While it may be stressful to try and maintain that first place position, I wouldn't have it any other way. It is fun to win and to be on a team that is recognized for its ability to play the game well.

Yet it isn't all fun and games. We work our butts off to get to this position. Our coach, Keri Sanchez, is a fitness beast. She is probably one of the most fit people I know and she expects us to be fit coming into season. We maintain and improve upon the endurance and speed we worked hard over summer to develop, with Monday fitness. Sometimes this means running back and forth to a cone 50 yards out until we have run 300 yards or 200 yards. While all the repetitions are timed, the kicker is that if everyone can finish the last few reps in a certain time, we do not have to run the last rep. This really builds team camaraderie and those naturally blessed with speed will yell and push (sometimes literally push) those busting to get to the line.

This past Monday we did one of our staple fitness workouts - ten 120-meter sprints. This is actually one of my favorite fitness tests because it doesn't involve lots of turning and change of direction. Keri announced at the beginning of practice that this was the last 120s of the year, which meant that it was the last one for the seniors ever. EVER!! Wow. While the majority of people were ecstatic to be done with this for the season, I realized that I really was reaching the final stretch of my soccer career and time on this amazing team. It truly was a bizarre feeling to run those 120s and know that I would never have to do those again. I was very unprepared for such a feeling at that moment. Nonetheless, we lined up, Keri said go and we were off to the races.
