This year's Athenas Soccer team is the most accomplished in CMS history. We were undefeated in SCIAC, the SCIAC regular league Champions and the SCIAC Tournament Champions. The senior class has not finished a season without some kind of championship, another major success for the Athenas.

However, all the success is a product of hard work, determination and perseverance. Every Monday we walk out to practice ready for whatever fitness Keri will throw at us. This Monday Keri placed a cone 25 yards from the line and we did 2 300s (6 roundtrips each), 4 200s (4 roundtrips each) and 4 100s (2 roundtrips each). It was definitely hard, but knowing that most teams cannot match our fitness made it a little easier. Additionally, our coach ran it with us, which is always motivating because you know she is going through the same pain.

The path to becoming champions was not without its rough patches, however. We had a few games in the middle of the season where we just could not score. It was frustrating, but we worked through it and came out on top. In fact, the SCIAC Tournament was implemented four years ago, and this was the first year that the regular league Champions won the tournament as well. It truly is amazing to play on such an awesome team that has had to put in the effort to accomplish extraordinary things.

This weekend is the first and second round of NCAAs. Again, for the first time in CMS Women's Soccer history, we get to host the games. Location and regional rankings are taken into consideration when deciding hosts. NCAA has ranked us 2nd in the West, which the NSCAA has ranked us 3rd in the West and 16th in the Nation. There will be four teams playing here this weekend and the winner will play the following weekend in the round of 16. In our mini-tournament we are seeded first and playing UC Santa Cruz. It will be a tough game, but making this tournament has been what we have worked for all season. Hopefully we can continue to improve and win games and keep this unforgettable season going.
